Born October 10th, 1962 in Benin to Sir Steven Idowu Ohiolei Giwa-Amu of Sabongida Ora, the first indigenous Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, Midwestern Region of Nigeria and to Reverend Ezidilim Anne Giwa-Amu (nee Brown) of Anambra State as their first child.

Obafemi Ehimigbai Giwa-Amu went to Emotan Preparatory School, Benin City, and from there to Edo College, Benin City. After this he went to Christ College, Brecon in in Wales where he passed his Ordinary Levels Certificate in eight subjects.

Obafemi, then went to do his Advanced Levels at Mayfield College, East Sussex, passing in French, Economics and English. He was picked to play rugby for England Schools under sixteen side as a winger.

Obafemi Ehimigbai Giwa-Amu cut his teeth practicing Law at the prestigious chambers of Abayomi Sogbesan and Co from where he set up his legal practice, Obafemi Giwa-Amu & Co.
